Where Have I Been?

Seriously, where has the time gone? I looked at my latest post a few weeks ago and was shocked to realize that I hadn't blogged since February. I thought a little post about what I've been up to might help get me back into the blogging mode.

1. My oldest daughter graduated from high school. I can hardly believe I'm old enough to have a college student! She is headed to the University of Utah to be a political science major. I'm so proud of her and I've got to admit I'm so glad that I don't have to get another phone message from the school saying she was tardy. SO SICK OF THOSE CALLS! College applications, apartment searches, campus tours - so time consuming.

2. I'm building a garage. I thought that sounded like a small project, but it's been huge. Maybe because the garage is kind of big or maybe because I didn't contract out enough of the work, but this has been so incredibly time consuming. And I am so tired of all of the hours spent calculating and recalculating how much it will cost and how we can possibly pay for it. And then doing it all over again when the costs were higher than I projected. And then doing it again and again and again. You get my point. It's so close now. We have to put the stone on the fireplace ourselves and then it's just waiting for the solar panels to go up and the driveway to be poured. We should be done sometime in June.

3. I went back to school. I was asked by my principal to enroll in the math endorsement program from a nearby college in preparation for facilitating some school wide math training that starts this August. I've always wanted to do this....someday. Not now. But here I am at the end of my first year of the program. I've learned a lot, so it's been good. But looking forward to one more year of classes raises my anxiety just a little.

4. I've been saying for years that I wanted to try an upper grade. I've taught everything from kindergarten to third and this is my eleventh year of first grade, so it's time. Drum roll please.....I'm moving to fifth grade! WOO HOO! I am so excited. A new curriculum, older students, a new all sounds so fun. But then I started the packing. Each box made me wonder what I was thinking. Why do I have all this stuff shoved in my cupboards? Some I haven't even used in years and it's so time consuming to clean it out, go through it and pack it up. I am proud of myself because I went through 6 huge drawers of files and condensed them into only the stuff I might use again and it fit into two file folder boxes. Thank goodness! I'm really trying to limit the amount I have to bring home and store. The plan was to just get it all over to the new classroom and forget about it until August. It's packed, but the janitor wouldn't let me move it. So it's sitting in my old coat room and I am checking it off my list now. New plan....don't worry about it until August. Not sure that's possible, but it's time to try.

School is out for me and I'm ready to get back in the blogging game. I'll be joining up with Christina's Kinder Blossoms to talk about Reciprocal Teaching on June 1 and then I am starting up a new collaboration group with some fifth grade teachers and we are going to be putting on a blog hop/book study of the book Readicide by Kelly Gallagher which will start on June 16th.

Happy Summer to All!
